Chase River Estuary Park
Chase River Estuary Park is located at the south end of Haliburton Street. The park’s 1.3 km of trails, includes boardwalks over wetlands and tall grasses, viewing and seating areas, stairs, and shaded gravel trails. The boardwalk leads park visitors over the tidal mouth of the Chase River.
At high tide, the estuary is an exciting place with a diverse range of birds (including Blue Herons and Bald Eagles) and vegetation. If you look carefully (at the right time of year!), you may even spot Chum and Coho Salmon.
The river got its name in the mid 1850s after two men murdered a local shepherd. Police searching for the culprits managed to track footprints in the freshly fallen snow up to and along what is now known as Chase River.
